Nestled in Avoyelles parish, Bunkie is conveniently located within three hours of any part of Louisiana. Corn, cotton and cane are the major of crops of the versatile soil in this region. The Louisiana Corn Festival is held on the complete second weekend every June. This festival began in 1987 and quickly became one of the state’s best celebrations. Every year the chamber names a “Corn Famer of the Year”, there is a pageant, parade and all sorts of contests including cook-offs, talent shows, corn shucking, eating, and pirogue races on the bayou. The festivities also include a street dances, carnival, live bands, arts, crafts and food booths!
